I have an HP deskjet 950c that i still use mainly as a portable printer hooked to my laptop which i am now running Win7 64-bit RC on. When i attach this printer, it recognizes it, but errors out when trying to find the driver. Both XP and Vista load a preinstalled MS driver when attaching this printer. Is there a compatible printer driver for windows 7? I would hate to have to buy a new printer just because I upgrade my operating system. Hi Perform the following. Select Devices and Printers. At the top of the window, select Add a Printer. Select Add a Local Printer. In Choose a Printer Port, select Use an existing port. In fact only a few of the newer HP Deskjet printers were in that list. In this case I selected another Deskjet model (Deskjet 400) and clicked the Windows Update button. It searched for what seemed like an hour and apparently did not find anything.

I finally exited the search window. 30 minutes later I repeated the steps and when I again checked the printer list in add a local printer, all of the Deskjet 600, 700, 800, and 900 series were listed there. Thanks for the reply Adam, That is the problem, there are no vista drivers. When you go to the hp website for a vista driver it says: 'A full feature software and driver package for Windows Vista is not available for your product. However, the Windows Vista operating system installed on your computer contains a basic driver solution for your product.' This is all well and good if i was using vista, but i am using Windows 7 64. When i connect the printer to the computer via usb, it finds the printer (by the correct name even), but errors out when looking for the driver.
