When it came to installing the drivers for my soundcard, everything seemed to go as normal, but when I restarted – no sound. After much searching I found that the “PCI Device” listed in the Device Manager was infact my soundcard – but it wouldn’t recognise the drivers and wouldn’t even let me force the correct driver to install on it – it seems my computer was totally unable to support the soundcard all of a sudden!

Well, I ran this Microsoft Installer and instantly the hardware was found and XP correctly assigned the correct drivers to the card – phew! I am very likely to need this in the future (and it’s hard to find it on the ‘net!) so I have uploaded it to this post.
