Fools, I know several of you have exercised Citibank's very tempting $150 sign-up offer. Well, I started preparing my taxes and began comparing tax statements against accounts I'd had this year and found that I had nothing from Citibank. Naturally, I wrote them a message on their secure bank messaging system. We have reviewed your account and our records indicate your account earned $3.08 interest for the year 2003. Citibank does not issue a 1099-INT for accounts that earned less than $10.00 interest for the year.

Citibank does not report interests earned amounts under $10.00 to the Internal Revenue Service. If you have further questions, please send a message or call Citibank Online Customer Service at 1-800-374-9700.

Or better yet, if you'd forgotten about the account, now you don't have to worry about it. I'm sure most of you are like me in that I didn't leave enough money in my accounts long enough to earn $10 in interest and by implication, Citibank does not report their signing bonus as any kind of income.
